Approved Uses
Revlimid is used alone or in combination with other medications, depending on the specific condition and treatment history:
- Multiple Myeloma (MM): In combination with dexamethasone, or as maintenance therapy after an autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant (auto-HSCT).
- Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS): For a specific type of low- or intermediate-1-risk MDS with a deletion 5q genetic abnormality, used to treat transfusion-dependent anemia.
- Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL): For patients whose disease has relapsed or progressed after at least two prior therapies.
- Follicular Lymphoma (FL) or Marginal Zone Lymphoma (MZL): In combination with a rituximab product for previously treated cases.
Important Safety Information and Warnings
Revlimid carries boxed warnings from the FDA, so the most serious type of warning, regarding significant health risks.
- Risk to unborn babies: Revlimid is related to thalidomide and can cause severe, life-threatening birth defects or fetal death. It is strictly contraindicated in pregnant females. Both male and female patients must enroll in a restricted distribution program called the Lenalidomide REMS® program and use specific birth control measures during treatment and for a period after stopping the drug.
- Blood clots: Treatment with Revlimid, especially in combination with dexamethasone, increases the risk of serious blood clots in the veins and arteries, which can lead to deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), heart attack, or stroke. Doctors typically prescribe blood thinners to mitigate this risk.
- Low blood counts: Revlimid commonly causes low levels of white blood cells (neutropenia) and platelets (thrombocytopenia), increasing the risk of infection and bleeding. Your healthcare provider will monitor blood counts frequently during treatment.

Administration – Where to Find revlimid
Revlimid is an oral capsule that should be swallowed whole with water at the same time each day, with or without food. Capsules should not be opened, broken, or chewed.
